Burnt Chef Project Launches Global Whistleblowing Service for Hospitality Sector
Posted by Emily on 22nd Nov 2024
The Burnt Chef Project, a social enterprise dedicated to improving mental health in hospitality, has launched a global whistleblowing service aimed at addressing workplace concerns in the industry. The initiative seeks to provide hospitality employees with a trusted and anonymous platform to report issues, fostering a healthier and more transparent working environment.
This development comes in the wake of the Worker Protection (Amendment of Equality Act 2010) Act 2023, which came into force on 26 October 2024. Recognising the high-pressure nature of the hospitality sector, the service offers employees a secure third-party channel to voice concerns that might otherwise remain unaddressed.
Building Trust and Transparency
The whistleblowing service is designed to help both employees and employers. It offers organisations the opportunity to demonstrate commitment to ethical practices by giving staff access to an impartial third party. This party collects and reports information to Wellbeing CIC, the Burnt Chef Project’s partner, which then collaborates with businesses to address the issues raised.
The initiative aims to reduce staff turnover, enhance employee engagement, and create a more supportive and positive workplace culture by resolving concerns early. These improvements are expected to contribute to better team performance and a more enjoyable working environment for all.
A Confidential and Professional Approach
The service operates with trained specialists managing each report to ensure confidentiality and professionalism. Employees can remain anonymous and access 24/7 support, while businesses receive tailored advice to address concerns effectively. This approach encourages open communication without fear of retaliation, providing both parties with a pathway to resolution.
A Step Forward for the Hospitality Sector
Kris Hall, founder and CEO of the Burnt Chef Project, emphasised the importance of whistleblowing as a tool for improving the industry. “Whistleblowing in the hospitality industry is a crucial mechanism for safeguarding ethical practices, protecting employees, and building the industry’s reputation,” Hall said.
He added, “Allowing businesses the opportunity to provide this service for their staff will help build trust and alleviate the pressures and anxieties that raising concerns can cause. Working with experienced staff to resolve situations professionally, we hope this becomes integral to ensuring staff mental health, wellbeing, and comfort during their time at work.”
Accessible for All
The whistleblowing service is available to businesses of all sizes through an annual subscription. By subscribing, organisations can demonstrate a commitment to employee wellbeing and workplace integrity, sending a powerful message about their values and priorities.
With this initiative, the Burnt Chef Project aims to reshape the hospitality industry, ensuring employees feel heard, valued, and supported.
