Gail's Bakery CEO Refutes Sale Speculation
Posted by Emma on 26th Mar 2024
Tom Molnar, CEO and co-founder of Gail's Bakery, has clarified recent speculations about the company being put up for sale, labelling such rumours as 'inaccurate'. Despite a report from Sky News suggesting that Bain Capital Credit and EBITDA Investments were considering the appointment of advisers for a potential sale before the end of 2024, official sources confirm that no such plans exist for this year. Molnar emphasises the company's focus on its core activities: "The story in the news is inaccurate. There is no sale process. We are spending our time baking, serving coffee, and playing our part in improving food choices."

Gail's, valued at £200m nearly three years ago, has grown significantly from approximately 73 cafes in 2021 to over 120 locations today, extending its presence from London to various UK regions, including Oxfordshire, Wilmslow, and Brighton. Marta Pogroszewska, Managing Director, highlighted the potential for further expansion, noting the chain could open between 300 to 500 new outlets across the UK.
Founded in the 1990s by Yael (Gail) Mejia to supply premium baked goods to chefs and restaurants, Gail's embarked on its high-street journey with its first shop in Hampstead in 2005. It has been under the leadership of Molnar and with the partnership of hospitality entrepreneur Luke Johnson since 2011.
