Greggs has announced its strategy to strengthen its retail network by constructing a new distribution centre in the Kettering/Corby area of Northamptonshire. This initiative is part of a strategic £250 million investment to bolster the company's capacity to supply its expanding portfolio of over 3,000 stores. Slated to be operational in the first half of 2027, this centre is one of two facilities planned to enhance distribution capabilities over the next two to three years.

The decision, highlighted in Greggs' annual report, reflects the company's commitment to growing its reach. The forthcoming distribution centre is designed for the efficient handling, storage, and distribution of ambient and chilled products, facilitating the support of an increasing number of outlets by existing radial distribution centres. This expansion promises to cater to regional growth and safeguard employment at its current Kettering logistics operation, a move commended for preserving jobs following a supplier's administration.
Greggs' momentum is evident in its record-breaking store openings and impressive sales growth. With 220 new stores launched in 2023 and plans to open an additional 170 in 2024, the company witnessed a nearly 20% increase in sales, with profits soaring to £168 million. Under the leadership of CEO Roisin Currie, Greggs is confidently progressing towards its ambitious five-year target of doubling sales by 2026, emphasizing its long-term vision for a significantly expanded UK presence.
