This initiative is expected to generate over 1,000 new job opportunities. It forms part of a broader renovation effort to enhance more than 600 pubs, approximately a quarter of 2,400 pubs under the Star Pubs banner.
Heineken's investment strategy is not just about refurbishing pubs. It's about understanding and adapting to changing consumer behaviours. We recognize the reduced frequency of commuting to city centres. We are focusing on elevating the quality of suburban pubs, transforming them into premium local spots. The planned upgrades will include creating distinct zones within each pub to support various activities, from dining to watching sports, enhancing the overall customer experience.
Lawson Mountstevens, Managing Director of Star Pubs, emphasized the evolving demands of pub-goers: "People are looking for maximum value from visits to their local. They want great surroundings and food and drink as well as activities that give them an extra reason to go out."

This renovation project is part of a larger scheme by Heineken, which has introduced plans for £200 million in investments since 2019. Despite these positive developments, the British Beer and Pub Association reports a troubling trend, with around 500 pubs closing in 2023 alone.
