Mobile Fish & Chip Operators Gear Up for National Award Showdown

Mobile Fish & Chip Operators Gear Up for National Award Showdown

Posted by Emily on 4th Dec 2024

Three of the UK’s most exciting mobile fish and chip businesses are racing towards the coveted Mobile Operator of the Year title at the National Fish & Chip Awards 2025. As they prepare for the final leg of their journey, these top contenders are gearing up to prove that they have the speed, skill, and innovation needed to take the crown.

The trio of finalists—A Salt ‘n’ Battery from Crowle in Lincolnshire, Country Fried from Blackburn in Lancashire, and Time and Plaice from Doncaster in Yorkshire—have fought hard to make it to this stage. Competing against other mobile units, from vans to trailers, they have impressed judges with their ability to serve quality fish and chips at local events, weddings, festivals, and corporate functions while maintaining top-tier standards.

The National Fish & Chip Awards, set to take place on 26 February 2025 at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge in London, are a celebration of excellence within the fish and chip industry. For the finalists, the competition goes beyond mere culinary skills; it tests resilience, innovation, and adaptability. The organisers, including the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF), are looking for businesses that embody the highest standards in everything from product knowledge and environmental sustainability to employer responsibilities.

Andrew Crook, president of the NFFF, commended the finalists’ efforts, stating, “Mobile fish and chip operators often work under conditions that can be much more unpredictable than those in traditional brick-and-mortar shops. They must be prepared for anything, from navigating difficult terrain to dealing with equipment failures under pressure. This makes the work of these operators truly impressive, as they demonstrate not only great culinary skills but quick-thinking and excellent leadership.”

Despite their success so far, the finalists know they cannot afford to ease off just yet. The final hurdle to the title will be the mystery visits, where the businesses will face unannounced evaluations, testing their ability to deliver under real-world conditions.

As they approach the finish line, the question remains: which of these talented mobile operators will take home the Mobile Operator of the Year title? Only time will tell, but all eyes are on A Salt ‘n’ Battery, Country Fried, and Time and Plaice as they prepare to make their mark in the history of the National Fish & Chip Awards.
