Pret A Manger Announces Price Reductions on Top-Selling Items
Posted by Emily on 19th Feb 2024
In a strategic move to address previous price increases, Pret A Manger has announced significant cuts on its six most popular items. This decision follows a period of heightened scrutiny over its pricing strategies, culminating in a 12% average price reduction across its leading sandwiches and baguettes. Notably, one item now boasts a 25% discount, with its price reduced by £1.
The products benefiting from these reductions include the pole and line caught tuna baguette, posh cheddar baguette, jambon beurre, egg mayo sandwich, tuna and cucumber sandwich, and the cheese toastie. While prices may vary based on location and dining options, notable adjustments have been made. For example, the tuna baguette is now priced at £3.99, down from £4.25, and the posh cheddar baguette has seen the most substantial decrease, from £4.99 to £3.99.
This pricing strategy comes as a response to critical coverage in the media last year, where Pret was accused of unjustified price hikes. In particular, the posh cheddar and pickle baguette's price of £7.15 at a high-profile location sparked widespread debate. Pret has clarified that such price points were influenced by the specific costs associated with operating in travel hubs and dine-in VAT charges.
Clare Clough, Pret's UK & Ireland managing director, emphasised the company's commitment to affordability, stating, "We've been looking at opportunities to bring down our prices where possible. With over a 10% average reduction on six of our freshly made bestselling items, we're making our menu more accessible. Furthermore, Club Pret subscribers enjoy an additional 20% off these and all menu items."
