Forty of the United Kingdom’s finest fish and chip shops have been shortlisted for the coveted Takeaway of the Year award as part of the National Fish & Chip Awards 2025. Organised by the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF), this prestigious event celebrates excellence in the fish and chip industry, showcasing the talent, dedication, and skill required to succeed in this beloved British trade.
The competition is a significant opportunity for establishments across the UK to highlight their quality and innovation. However, the road to victory is far from simple. The contenders will undergo a rigorous selection process, which includes a series of challenges designed to test their industry knowledge, sustainability practices, product quality, and customer service standards.
A panel of industry experts assesses each participant, ensuring that the best fish and chip shops rise to the top. The goal is not just to reward excellent takeaways but to set a new benchmark for the entire sector. The National Fish & Chip Awards aim to promote continuous improvement and recognise establishments pushing the boundaries of quality and service.
Andrew Crook, President of the NFFF, expressed his admiration for the high level of entries this year. He emphasised the dedication required to perfect the iconic fish and chips dish and run a thriving business. “Fish and chips is an iconic British staple, and it takes significant skill and hard work to perfect the dish while overcoming challenges and maintaining a successful business. Each year, we see greater depths of talent and expertise, and this year’s competition is no exception,” Crook stated.
The Takeaway of the Year award is one of the most anticipated categories in the competition. Each step of the process offers participants valuable feedback, enabling them to refine their operations and aim even higher.
