The National Fish & Chip Awards unveiled the ten finalists vying for the prestigious takeaway of the Year title, showcasing the best fish and chip shops across the UK. This announcement marks the final stage of an intense selection process designed to highlight excellence in every aspect of the industry.

Judges, comprising industry experts, have rigorously assessed the finalists on a range of criteria, including product quality, sustainable practices, environmental initiatives, employee engagement, and overall business excellence. Central to their success is the preparation of consistently outstanding fish and chips, which continues to elevate the reputation of this much-loved British staple.

The journey to the final ten has been challenging. An original shortlist of 40 contenders was whittled down through high-pressure tasks, interviews, and evaluations. From there, the top 20 were further narrowed to the remaining finalists, each of whom will now face unannounced mystery visits to determine the ultimate winner. The coveted title will be awarded at the official ceremony in London on 26 February.

This year’s finalists span the UK, reflecting regional diversity and talent in the industry. The list includes:

  • Kellaway’s Fish and Chips, Truro
  • Yarm Road Fish and Chips, Darlington
  • Angell’s Fisheries, Newark-on-Trent
  • The Fish Bank, Sherburn-in-Elmet
  • Mister C’s, Selby
  • The Scrap Box, York
  • Redcloak Fish Bar, Stonehaven
  • The Fish Works, Largs
  • Finney’s Fish and Chips, Benllech
  • Zero Plus Fish & Chips, Cardiff

The finalists hope to follow in the footsteps of last year’s winner, Ship Deck of Caerphilly, whose owners, Ryan and Kimberly Hughes, set an inspiring standard for the industry.

Andrew Crook, President of the National Federation of Fish Friers and organiser of the awards, emphasised the significance of the competition. “It’s no secret that entering the National Fish & Chip Awards is no easy feat. The process ensures that we, as an industry, continue striving for excellence. Customers are at our heart, so businesses must serve them to the highest standard. This exceptional group of finalists represents the very best of the industry.”

With anticipation building, the nation’s fish and chip enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the final decision, which will crown the UK’s best fish and chip takeaway for 2025.
