Wendy's, a renowned fast-food chain, is set to mark a significant expansion in the UK by opening its first franchise location in Sheffield next month. This move signifies the brand's strategic push into the northern regions of the UK. Square Burgers Limited will operate the Sheffield outlet, focusing on developing Wendy's presence in South Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

Abigail Pringle, President, International and Chief Development Officer at The Wendy's Company, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion: "British customers have been eagerly asking when Wendy's is coming to the north, and we're excited to open a new restaurant in Sheffield soon." She also highlighted the partnership with Square Burgers Limited as a pivotal step in growing Wendy's footprint in the UK: "They will be an integral partner as we continue to grow the brand across this region."
In parallel with the franchise expansion, Wendy's is developing a pipeline of company-owned restaurants in the northwest, particularly in Liverpool and Greater Manchester. This initiative aligns with Wendy's long-term vision of establishing 300 to 400 restaurants across the UK.
Wendy's operates ten company-owned restaurants and 15 delivery-only kitchens in the UK. The company anticipates maintaining around 20-25 company-owned sites, with the majority of expansion projected through franchising partnerships.
Earlier this month, Todd Penegor, President and Chief Executive of The Wendy's Company, acknowledged the current economic challenges in the UK market. However, he reaffirmed the company's commitment to the UK, considering it a significant opportunity within Europe.
