Who Will Take the Title? Announcing the Finalists for Fish and Chip Industry's Employee of the Year

Posted by Emily on 8th Dec 2023

The National Fish and Chip Awards is proud to announce the top four finalists for its first-ever Employee of the Year award. This new category has seen an influx of nominations, leading to an exceptional shortlist of fish and chip shop professionals. These individuals have been recognised for their exemplary teamwork, significant contributions to their businesses, and outstanding community involvement.

The finalists are:

  • Jonathan Ciardini from Ricky's in Southbourne, Dorset
  • Joanne Newman of Towngate Fisheries in Bradford, West Yorkshire
  • Jamie Toland at Taylors in Stockport, Greater Manchester
  • Donna Whitfield from Bells Fish and Chips in Durham

They will attend the awards ceremony in London at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge on 28 February, where industry peers will decide the winner.

Andrew Crook, the awards organiser and president of the National Federation of Fish Friers, expressed pride in the quality of the candidates: "The calibre of individuals that have been considered for Employee of the Year has made us so proud to be part of this dynamic and exciting sector in foodservice. It's been a tough process for them to go through, and even during the assessment period, we've seen how our four finalists have refined their expertise further. They deserve this moment in the spotlight, and we felt it fitting to show our appreciation as a community and to enable other chip shop owners, colleagues and peers to decide which person will receive the award."

The judges had a tough job selecting the final four, so we're excited to see who will scoop the highly anticipated first Employee of the Year."

We invite readers to share their thoughts and predictions in the comments below. Who do you think will be crowned the Employee of the Year?
