Yorkshire and Scotland are proudly represented in the final round of the 'Newcomer of the Year' category at the 2024 National Fish and Chip Awards. Sponsored by ADM/Frymax, the award highlights businesses established since January 1, 2022. This year's rigorous judging process not only aims to uphold high industry standards but also to motivate shop owners and their teams to ambitiously expand their horizons for future growth and success.

The finalists, showcasing remarkable culinary skill and business acumen, are set to attend the grand awards ceremony on February 28 at the Park Plaza Westminster in London. Here, the most outstanding among them will be crowned.

The top contenders are:

  • Ings Fish Bar, Redcar
  • Mackerel Sky, Stamford Bridge
  • Redcloak Fish Bar, Stonehaven

Andrew Crook, President of the National Federation of Fish Friers, overseeing the awards, expressed his enthusiasm: "Newcomer of the Year is an inspiring category. These businesses have put their all into establishing solid foundations, forming excellent teams, and creating enticing menus. Their rapid success, especially in a challenging period for the industry, is what makes these shops the leading new additions to the UK's fish and chip scene."

Andrew Marriott, ADM/Frymax's UK Brand & Marketing Manager, also shared his thoughts: "ADM/Frymax is honored to sponsor the Newcomer of the Year award. Starting as a newcomer ourselves in 1954, Frymax is a testament to enduring quality over 70 years. Despite recent industry challenges, fish and chips remain the UK's beloved dish. Our finalists have not only identified but also capitalized on opportunities to establish prosperous businesses. We look forward to their continued success, mirroring Frymax's long-standing journey."
