Admiral Taverns Expands with Acquisition of 18 Marston's Pubs

In a significant move within the UK pub industry, Admiral Taverns has announced its acquisition of 18 freehold pubs from Marston's, further bolstering its growing portfolio. The newly acquired pubs, which are wet-led and community-focused, are spread across various counties, including Dorset, Derbyshire, and Yorkshire.
This latest acquisition will increase Admiral's estate to more than 1,420 pubs. It follows the company's purchase of 37 Fuller's pubs earlier this year for £18.3 million, signalling a consistent expansion strategy.
Chris Jowsey, Chief Executive of Admiral Taverns, commented on the acquisition: "The deal also highlights the positive momentum and real resilience we've seen in the sector, particularly across our wet-led community estate. With the Euros and the Olympics, we've seen increased footfall as people have returned to their local pubs to enjoy a summer of sport."
For Marston's, this sale marks another step in its recent divestment strategy. Last year, the company announced plans to raise £50 million by selling pubs to reduce its debt burden. In May, Marston's sold 19 pubs to Red Oak Taverns, and in July, the company divested its 40% stake in a joint venture with Carlsberg. This recent sale indicates Marston's focus on simplifying its business model to concentrate on its core pub operations.
Noel Moffitt, Senior Director of Pubs and Restaurants at Christie & Co, acted as the advisor for Marston's in the transaction.
This acquisition reinforces Admiral Taverns' presence in the UK pub sector and reflects the industry's evolving landscape, where consolidation and strategic divestments are becoming more common.
