Caffè Nero is set to open its inaugural drive-thru store at Stansted Airport this spring, which is a significant development for the UK's drive-thru sector. Positioned just 500 yards from the main terminal, this 1,200-square-foot facility is strategically located to serve those visiting the airport, whether dropping off passengers or heading to parking areas.

This pioneering store, valued at £1.2m, is designed from the ground up to embody a unique concept. It's not just a drive-thru but also a 'drive to' destination, featuring elegant seating, sophisticated lighting, and a deli food selection, all available 24/7. This prototype store is poised to become the blueprint for future Caffè Nero drive-thru outlets.
Gerry Ford, the founder and group CEO, said, "I'm delighted that we are opening our first drive-thru store in the world. I didn't want to open such a store until we found a location that had a format where we could offer a premium experience combined with the convenience you would look for in a drive-thru." The partnership with Stansted Airport has enabled Caffè Nero to experiment with store formats and expand its model to include more drive-thru stores.
Caffè Nero's venture into the drive-thru domain aligns with a trend across various UK brands, including Wendy's, Popeyes, Leon, Gail's Bakery, Tim Hortons, Five Guys, and Starbucks. All have explored or established drive-thru sites in recent years.
The Nero Group operates nearly 1,100 stores in 10 countries and currently has over 620 Caffè Nero stores in the UK. The new drive-thru at Stansted Airport strengthens Caffè Nero's presence, increasing their total count to five stores.
This new venture promises to redefine the coffee experience for travellers and locals alike. We invite you to share your thoughts and expectations about Caffè Nero's latest innovation in the comments below.
