Pizza Pilgrims Reports Record Growth and Expands to New Locations

Posted by Emma on 16th May 2024

Pizza Pilgrims has experienced substantial growth, with revenue rising to £29 million in the year ending June 25, 2023. This represents a 37% increase from the previous year, with pre-tax profits soaring to £700,000, more than double the prior year's figure. The company's earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA) also increased significantly, reaching £2.4 million, up from £1.1 million in 2022.

Founded in 2012 by brothers Thom and James Elliott, Pizza Pilgrims embarked on its journey in a three-wheeled Piaggio Ape van, touring Italy to discover the best pizzas. From selling pizzas out of a van in Soho, the chain has grown to 22 locations across the UK. Even in the face of the pandemic, the company not only survived but thrived, thanks to its resilience and innovative offerings like the 'Pizza in the Post' kits in collaboration with Ocado, which now contribute 19% to the company's income.

The pizza chain has announced plans to open four new sites this year, including Euston and King's Cross in London, Cardiff, and Edinburgh—marking its expansion into Scotland and Wales. Pizza Pilgrims continues to innovate, with bestsellers like the Margherita and double pepperoni hot honey pizzas proving popular among their 480 employees' weekly production of 50,000 pizzas.

Thom Elliott, co-founder of Pizza Pilgrims, underlined the company's unwavering commitment to sustainable growth and delivering high-quality, authentic pizza experiences. The chain's focus on culinary authenticity and innovative business practices has not only built a loyal customer base but also attracted significant investment, including a notable £3 million investment from Imbiba, who share our commitment to sustainability.

As Pizza Pilgrims prepares to expand further, the company maintains its dedication to quality and innovation, promising to delight pizza enthusiasts across the UK and beyond for years to come.
