Caerphilly's Cardiff's Ship Deck has been honoured with the National Fish and Chip Awards' Takeaway of the Year title in a notable industry achievement. Celebrating its 36th anniversary, the National Fish and Chip Awards is renowned for spotlighting exceptional contributions within the UK's food service sector, including exemplary customer service and professional development opportunities, and celebrating the beloved British tradition of fish and chips.

This year's competition saw a rigorous selection process. From an initial pool of 40 contenders, the panel of experts narrowed the list to 20, then to the top 10 finalists. These businesses were evaluated on various criteria, including sustainability practices, product knowledge, and mystery shopper visits. Ship Deck emerged victorious, with Yarm Road Fish and Chips and the Fish Works securing the second and third places, respectively.

Andrew Crook, President of the National Federation of Fish Friers and awards organiser, praised the high standard of entries: "Congratulations to Ship Deck for winning the much-coveted Takeaway of the Year award. This year's participants were exceptionally high calibre, but Ship Deck stood out for their dedication and quality. Well done!"

Seafood from Norway, the principal sponsor, has extended an invitation to Ship Deck for a unique study trip to Norway. This experience will offer insight into the Norwegian fishing industry's sustainability and environmental practices, ensuring the continued supply of high-quality seafood to UK fish and chip shops.
